Seeing that Ariel and Eric need a little nudge to make true love’s kiss happen, Sebastian decides he’ll take matters into his own hands (or claws). He sings and leads the lagoon creatures in a calypso ballad. The song’s lyrics encourage Prince Eric not to hesitate and kiss Ariel before it is too late. If Ariel cannot get Eric, her true love, to kiss her in three days, she will turn back into a mermaid and belong to Ursula forever.

[SEBASTIAN, spoken]
Percussion.

Words.
(sung)
There, you see her
Sitting there, across the way
She don’t got a lot to say, but there’s something about her
And you don’t know why, but you’re dyin’ to try
You wanna kiss the girl
[SEBASTIAN & ENSEMBLE]
Yes, you want her
Look at her, you know you do
Possible she want you too, there is one way to ask her
It don’t take a word, not a single word
Go on and kiss the girl
Sing with me now.
[SEBASTIAN & FROGS]
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, my, oh, my
Look like the boy too shy
He ain’t gonna kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, ain’t that sad?
Ain’t it a shame? Too bad
[SEBASTIAN]
He gonna miss the girl
[Instrumental]

About Kiss The Girl
“Kiss the Girl” is a song written by lyricist Howard Ashman and composer Alan Menken Walt Disney Pictures’ 28th animated feature film The Little Mermaid.
“Kiss the Girl” is a romantic calypso love song; the song’s lyrics encourage Prince Eric to kiss Ariel before it’s too late. Originally recorded by American actor Samuel Wright in his film role as Sebastian,
“Kiss the Girl” had a mostly positive reception. The song was nominated for both an Academy and Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song but lost both to “Under the Sea”, another song from The Little Mermaid soundtrack.
Midway through the movie, the song takes place during Ariel’s second day as a human. She has already been transformed by Ursula into a human, but she cannot speak anymore, as she exchanged her voice to become human. If Ariel can’t get Prince Eric her true love to kiss her before three days have passed, she will turn back into a mermaid and belong forever to Ursula.
Sebastian, Flounder, and Scuttle try to encourage Eric to kiss Ariel so that she can remain human permanently, while the two sit in a rowboat in a lagoon. Sebastian suggests that Eric wants to kiss Ariel, but he is just too shy, and he should go ahead and “kiss the girl” to see if she likes him, too. So Sebastian and the lagoon residents sing this song to get Eric in the mood to kiss Ariel.
The Little Mermaid was produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The Little Mermaid, was written and directed by John Musker and Ron Clements and produced by Musker and Howard Ashman, who also wrote the film’s songs with Alan Menken.
Menken also composed the film’s score. The film stars the voices of Jodi Benson, Christopher Daniel Barnes, Pat Carroll, Samuel E. Wright, Jason Marin, Kenneth Mars, and Buddy Hackett.
Released in 1989, the film is loosely based on the 1837 Danish fairy tale of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen. The film tells the story of a teenage mermaid princess named Ariel, who dreams of becoming human and falls in love with a human prince named Eric, which leads her to make a magic deal with the sea witch, Ursula, to become human and be with him.
