9 – Wolf Attack
This particular scene doesn’t seem vital at first, but it has a crucial role in building the relationship between Beauty and Beast. After the Beast gets angry with Belle, she leaves immediately and takes off into the woods on her trusted horse.
She soon realizes her mistake as wolves descend on and attack her. At the last moment, the Beast roars in and saves them both! On the return trip to the castle, Belle tends to the Beast’s wounds. They finally start to see other qualities in each other that may lead to something more.
8 – Bonjour
“Bonjour” is the song that opens the movie and introduces viewers to this little town where our story takes place. It’s a fun, upbeat song that lets us know how the world works and how Belle feels as an outsider.
The villagers live their daily lives doing similar things day after day. However, Belle longs for adventure, searching for it in her books. “I want adventure in the great wide somewhere, I want it more than I can tell.”
Once Gaston proposes to Belle, she gets to experience life outside what society expects from her. However, it is evident from Belle heading for a hilltop singing of her dreams that she won’t settle for just being a housewife.
7 – The West Wing
When she arrives at the Beast’s castle, one of the first things he makes clear to Belle is that she must not go into the west wing. We all know how well a person who seeks adventure listens. While walking through the castle grounds with Lumiere and Coggsworth, Belle’s curiosity gets the best of her, and she snuck off. Slashed paintings, torn tapestries, and ruined furniture soon surround her.
She suddenly notices a faint red glow behind the glass dome and sees the rose with the fallen petals inside. She lifts the glass dome to get a better look and reaches to touch the rose.
Shocked by a fierce roar, she slams down the glass dome as the Beast’s angry face appears. He loses his temper as he yells at her for what she has done. Soon, she runs away from him in fear. Once she’s out of sight, you can see the regret on the Beast’s face. This scene is crucial in understanding the Beast’s personality and his reasons for being so angry with himself.
6 – The Mob Song
One of the last songs we listen to in Beauty and the Beast. “The Mob Song” tells us about Gaston’s plan to incite fear among the villagers and inspire them to attack the Beast’s castle. After he discovers that Belle has romantic feelings for the Beast, Gaston plans to kill the Beast and steal the castle’s treasures. Then, he plans to murder his rival and take Belle for himself. Finally, Gaston leads the angry mob to the Beast’s castle, and everyone picks up the song as they prepare for the attack.
5 – Something There
“Something There” is sung by Belle and the Beast, accompanied by Lumiere, Cogsworth, and Mrs. Potts. After saving Belle from the wolf attack, their initially turbulent relationship blossoms into a friendship. Hints of romance are beginning to show up.
The lyrics emphasize that they’re falling in love. Belle and the Beast begin to wonder if they missed something during their first meeting. But, now that the “something” has arrived, the flow of love is becoming more steady. The servants of the house are moved by the romance blossoming before them.
4 – Gaston
“Gaston” is undoubtedly one of the best villain songs in the history of Disney animated movies. It’s charming, funny, and catchy, but not at the expense of why Gaston is such a terrible brute.
Who would have thought a song written to stroke one’s ego would be amazingly fun? And the song has the word “expactorating” in its lyrics, which is an achievement worth noting. While Gaston may not have the cache of some other Disney villains, this song might be why he is so popular with film fans.
3 – Belle
Let’s get started with the first of three Oscar nominations. Beauty and the Beast aren’t wasting any time. After a brief voice-over, the film jumps directly into the first song.
“Belle” tells you everything you must do to set up the movie. It introduces Belle and Gaston, and each sings about who they are and where they are in their lives. We learn that Belle doesn’t fit in with the community, and we see everything we need to know about the village. It’s an incredible piece of writing and storytelling.
2 – Be Our Guest
Each song in Beauty and the Beast has some outstanding elements, but “Be Our Guest” has them all rolled into one. It’s a fun song, a catchy tune, and a complete show-stopper. Also, the song tells us the backstories of the castle servants, giving us insight into their personalities and motivations, which makes them essential characters in the rest of our story. To get the best effect from the movie, audiences need to feel an emotional attachment to these characters. “Be Our Guest” is the song that makes them care about them. Did I mention that it’s just entertaining?
